Ankle Rehab Program

December 30th, 2009

I went to the physical therapist yesterday and we went over the initial review of the injury and get a baseline for what the rehab program would look like. I talked about my current training and goal to do an Ironman in 2010 and was then referred to a a person that specializes in sports medicine. I was hoping to go this route because my rehab goals were to get my body to compete again, not just be able to walk or go for an occasional run.

I received a worksheet with six exercises to do until I start with my new physical therapist. I have to do this twice a day with the first session this morning. The exercises aren’t that difficult but the last two requiring balancing on one leg was more challenging. Its actually a good thing because it reveals one of my deficiencies and gives me another area to strengthen in the off season. A few yoga sessions a month should help.

If you were wondering about specific drills to strengthen your ankle, here’s the chart I’m working through below. You can click on it to enlarge.
